Dr. Saju Joseph , Chief Ophthalmologist

After finishing his M S Ophthalmology from O E U Institute of Ophthalmology , K M C Manipal in 1988, Dr Saju joined Aravind eye hospital, Madurai as Medical Officer and Asst proff. He underwent special training in microsurgery and IOL implantation under Dr Martin Spencer from U S A. Dr Saju Joseph later served as senior consultant in charge of Aravind eye hospital at Theni from 1989 to 1991.

Dr Saju set up Ophthalmology department at Moulana Hospital, Perintalmanna in 1991 and performed the first IOL implantation in Malabar. He underwent an observership at L V P Institute at Hyderabad in phacoemulsification during 1995 and started phacoemulsification in 1996, one of the first few in Kerala to do so. He along with a group of doctors started the second lasik centre, Supervision lasik centre in Kerala.

Dr Saju has presented many papers in regional, national and international conferences and been a regular faculty at various workshops in Phacoemulsification and Lasik. He has had advanced training at Singapore and Vienna for lasik. He has attented several state national and international meetings including AAO , ESCRS, APACRS and APAO.

After 20 years of busy practise at Perintalmanna Dr Saju wanted to serve the people in his home town and thus set up TVJ eye hospital in his father’s name T V Joseph.

Dr Saju is actively involved in organisational matters of Kerala and All India Ophthalmological society activities. He organised the state conference at Calicut in 2000 and served as secretary of KSOS in 2003 to 2005 and Managing committe member of AIOS in 2011. He was one of the Organising secretary of AIOS conference at Cochin in 2012.
